String-Tie Envelopes

Been thinking of a way to package my Heart-felt phone sleeves and I came across the string envelopes from minieco.co.uk.  So I made my own version of them.

Materials you'll need:

Download the template.  Scale according to your need and cut out.
In this case, I will be using this to package my Heart-felt phone sleeves.

Trace the template onto your paper. I prefer to cut it out immediately. You can secure the template and the colored paper with a paper clip to avoid it from moving. Do not throw away the excess paper bits!

Fold the sides accordingly (dotted lines on the template).

This is where the paper bits come in handy.
Using a coin, trace 2 circles onto the small papers and cut them out.

Cut out a little slit in the middle of the circles and insert the paper fastener as shown.

Position the circular bits as shown. Make sure they are aligned when the flaps are folded! Make a little slit and insert the paper fastener and lock it in place.

Fold and glue the flaps together to create the envelope.

Tie a piece of string/yarn on the top circular bit. This completes your string-tie envelope!

All Boxed Up!

After sewing all the letters from my last post, I thought of a cute package for it.  What better way to give your personalized handcrafted gifts than to put them in a handcrafted box too!

I have always fancied pillow boxes. So after several failed attempts, here's my final take on it.

Materials you'll need:

Cut a square or rectangular piece of your scrapbook or cardboard paper. I personally prefer a thicker paper because it's more sturdy.  Then fold about half an inch to make a flap on one side of your paper.

Fold the paper in half until the edge covering the flap.

Round off both ends of your paper using a CD or a round object and cut the excess parts.

This will be the output after cutting out the excess parts.

Score all four rounded edges using the CD.  It will create an almond shape just like what's shown below.  Note that if you're using a dull knife, be careful not to cut through the paper.  The purpose of scoring is to create a "guide" or indention for when you fold these sides later on.

Cut off the excess parts on the flap.  Apply the double sided tape, remove the adhesive and fold the side until it meets the tape. Make sure that the sides are aligned properly.

Fold the scored edges inwards to create the pillow effect.

You can use ribbons, yarns, stickers, buttons and other craft materials to decorate your pillow boxes.

Going Back to the Basics

i have been thinking of what gifts i could give my friends for Christmas... i know it's only July, but hey, preparation is key especially for personalized handmade gifts!

i was really pleased with the outcome. so here it goes!

materials you'll need:

 cut out the patterns.
* tip * : you can just print out from the computer and use bold fonts (e.g. Cooper)

trace the patterns onto the felt - right side up and opposite side up.

cut out the letters out.
remember to cut inside the pencil marks so no marks will be visible when you sew it.

stack the letters on to of each other.
use a contrasting thread color and start to sew.
make a running stitch along the sides of the letter.

upon stitching about 2/3 around the letter, you can start to put the fiber fill in.
* exemption * you can do this a little at a time, especially when there's a small/thin part that will be harder to fill. in this case - where the round part meets the vertical part.

set the key ring and leather cord in place.

sew the cord in place.  in this part, it's better to stitch back and forth to ensure that it's sturdy.
keep sewing until you reach the starting point.

finished product!
